How much does a BT Fibre Leased Line Cost?

Leased Line Costs

If your looking around for a determination of BT leased line costs in your location your either upgrading from a ADSL or FTTC Broadband circuit or looking for an alternative leased line provider.  The first port of call for most looking for an indication of leased line costs is to turn to a well known provider BT.  BT may very well have national coverage and be in nearly all corners of the U.K. but so are other providers such as Vodafone, SSE, Sky and Virgin Media to name a few which in nearly all cases are considerably cheaper.

What determines Leased Line Cost?

Since the cost to install a leased line is a considerably more than conventional broadband, let’s take a look at the factors which influence the leased line cost. Cost varies from one company to another and in different geographical areas. The factors are:

  • Bandwidth

The speed of a leased line is a major factor that contributes to the overall leased line cost. Customers require fast speed for communication and data transfer, therefore, most companies offer speed packages where you can pick an appropriate bandwidth from 10Mbps through to 1Gbps. You must keep in mind the faster the leased line the higher the cost.

  • Distance

The distance between the two locations influences the leased line costs, for example if your close to a BT telephone exchange a Ethernet Access Direct (EAD) Local Access (LA) is used whereas if your further away Local Access cannot be used and it inflates the monthly leased line costs.

  • Contract Term

Many providers including BT will absorb any installation charges if you are to commit to a minimum 36 month term. If you are to opt for a shorter 12 month term you should expect to pay a one-off upfront installation charge in additional to the monthly rental when the service is commissioned.
