Bring Your Own Router to Exascale: Full Fibre on Exascale, CityFibre and Openreach
Already have a router you love? You can bring your own compatible router to Exascale Full Fibre Broadband on the Exascale, CityFibre and Openreach networks. Choose not to receive an Exascale router and eligible customers can save £3 per month.
Whether you want to keep your existing home network or choose equipment with the features you need, here is what to check before you order.
Your broadband, your choice of router
Your router helps connect your home’s devices to the internet. If you have already invested time in setting up your Wi-Fi, guest network or parental controls, bringing compatible equipment with you can make switching more convenient.
It can also avoid adding another router to a cupboard when you already have suitable equipment. The key is checking compatibility with your new Exascale connection before choosing the bring-your-own-router option.
Save £3 a month with your own compatible router
Eligible customers who opt out of an Exascale-supplied router receive a £3 monthly discount. That adds up to £36 over 12 months when the discount applies throughout that period.
Check the router option and final monthly price when ordering. If you are already an Exascale customer, contact us to discuss your options before changing your equipment.

Available on Exascale, CityFibre and Openreach
You can choose your own compatible router when taking Exascale Full Fibre over any of these three access networks:
- Exascale: use suitable equipment with broadband delivered over our own access network.
- CityFibre: bring a compatible router to an Exascale service delivered over CityFibre.
- Openreach: choose suitable equipment for an Exascale Full Fibre service delivered over Openreach.
The network and packages available depend on your address. Do not assume that settings from a previous provider will work with your new service: ask Exascale for the configuration that applies to your connection.

Check your router before you order
Have the exact model name and hardware version ready, then check the following with Exascale:
- Connection compatibility: Exascale’s bring-your-own-router announcement specifies suitable VLAN and DHCP capability. Confirm the complete requirements for your particular service.
- WAN connection: check that the router can connect to the equipment installed for your Full Fibre service.
- Performance: confirm that the router’s ports and routing capability are suitable for the broadband package you want.
- Mesh systems: if you want to keep a mesh Wi-Fi system, confirm whether it can act as the main router or needs a separate compatible router.
- Additional services: mention any digital phone service, static IP or IPv6 requirements so the relevant setup can be checked together.
An advertised Wi-Fi speed alone is not a compatibility check. If you are buying new equipment, confirm the model with us first.
Getting ready for installation
- Check which Exascale service is available at your address.
- Confirm your chosen router is compatible before selecting the router opt-out.
- Obtain the connection settings for your specific service from Exascale.
- Follow the installation instructions and your router manufacturer’s setup guidance.
- Test your connection and the devices you use most often once the service is active.
Your own router does not replace the network’s fibre termination equipment. For example, Openreach Full Fibre uses an Optical Network Terminal, or ONT, which connects the fibre service to your router. Leave installed network equipment in place and follow the instructions for your connection.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use any router with Exascale?
No. The router must support the requirements of your Exascale service. Send us the exact model before ordering or buying equipment if you are unsure.
Is bring your own router available on all three networks?
Yes. It is available for Exascale Full Fibre services delivered over Exascale, CityFibre and Openreach, subject to equipment compatibility and service availability at your address.
Do all three networks use identical settings?
Do not assume so. Use the settings Exascale provides for your connection rather than copying instructions for another network or provider.
Can I keep my existing mesh Wi-Fi?
Potentially. Check the exact system and how it will connect. Ask whether it can perform the routing role required by your service or needs to work alongside another router.
How much can I save?
Eligible customers who choose not to receive an Exascale router can save £3 per month. Check eligibility and the final price when placing your order.
