A fast primary connection does not remove the risk of an outage. Resilience planning considers how the organisation will keep essential services running when a connection or local component fails.

Identify essential services

Decide which applications must remain available, including voice, payments, remote access and cloud platforms. This determines the capacity a backup service needs.

Avoid hidden single points of failure

Two services are not necessarily diverse if they share duct routes, equipment, power or an upstream dependency. Ask what is genuinely separate.

Test the recovery plan

Automatic failover should be tested periodically. Confirm that routing, firewall rules, DNS, voice services and monitoring behave as expected on the backup path.
