Exascale partners with NetSkrt to bring Edge content caching to Telford & Wrekin

Exascale a rapidly growing ISP with its own fibre network in Telford & Wrekin and via partner networks nationally has recently signed a deal to work with NetSkrt an edge caching provider to install edge content caches in Telford & Wrekin.

What is an Edge Cache?

An Edge cache is a single server or a cluster of high performance servers, with large storage capabilities to store large videos and multimedia content. Edge cache servers have a minimum of 10G network uplinks.

Why Edge Caching?

Bringing content as close as possible to the customer has a number of benefits;

  • Near instant access for the end user
  • Improves end user experience
  • Reduces congestion on ISP core network links
  • Reduces dependence on Peering Exchanges to deliver content
  • Localises content to the ISPs access network

Thomas Bibb CEO of Exascale said: “We have always been a great believer of keeping traffic local, being members of regional internet exchanges in Manchester and London. Partnering with NetSkrt takes this one step further and brings content within less than 1ms of the end user! Our customers are going to love it”
