Exascale on the CityFibre network
CityFibre 1000 Mbps broadband
A gigabit full fibre option for connected households using video calls, streaming, gaming and cloud services together.
← Compare all CityFibre packagesIs the 1Gbps tier right for your home?
This tier is worth considering when several people use the connection at once and you want capacity for everyday online work and entertainment. Think about combined use across the household, rather than choosing a package from a single device’s speed test.
For gaming, extra download capacity can help with large updates. A higher headline speed does not by itself guarantee lower latency; your home network and the game service also matter.
Getting useful speeds from a gigabit connection
For a wired computer, check that its network adapter, the router port and the connecting cable support gigabit Ethernet. A slower port can limit that device even when your broadband package is faster.
Wi-Fi performance depends on distance, interference and the capabilities of your router and device. A wired connection is useful when comparing performance or transferring large files.
When to compare a faster tier
If several capable devices regularly perform large transfers at the same time, compare the extra capacity of the 1.2Gbps and 2.5Gbps tiers. If your current limits come from weak Wi-Fi or an older device, improving that part of the home network may be more useful than choosing a faster broadband tier.
