Exascale on the CityFibre network

CityFibre 1200 Mbps broadband

An intermediate full fibre tier for households looking beyond gigabit capacity, with practical guidance on using the extra headroom.

Where the 1.2Gbps tier can make sense

Consider this tier when your household has simultaneous demanding activity, such as cloud backups alongside large downloads and video meetings. It offers an intermediate capacity option between the gigabit and 2.5Gbps tiers shown in the comparison.

The potential benefit depends on your combined usage and home network. Compare the current monthly difference with how often you actually move large amounts of data.

Understanding the gigabit port limit

A single device connected through a 1Gbps Ethernet port cannot use a line rate above that port’s capacity. To make use of more than gigabit capacity on one wired device, the device, router ports and cabling must all support a faster link.

Multiple devices may use the connection together, subject to the router’s capabilities. Check your equipment before expecting one speed test to show the full package line rate.

Choosing between 1Gbps and 2.5Gbps

The 1Gbps tier remains worth comparing if your devices are mostly connected through gigabit ports and your use is mainly everyday browsing, streaming and calls. The 2.5Gbps tier is worth considering for heavier concurrent transfers when you have compatible networking.

A larger advertised line rate does not remove Wi-Fi interference, a slow remote server or the limits of an individual device.

Installation and switching

Availability and installation requirements depend on your full address. Where One Touch Switching applies, Exascale coordinates the move with your existing provider. We confirm the next steps and any appointment requirements during your order.
